WheelMates Magnet grab ranked B

Toggle the grab to lift covers, hold buttons, and drag objects without hogging the stick.

Magnet Grab

Magnet grab ranks B on the gadget tier list. B is not a dumpster rank. It means the gadget is the answer to object puzzles and a passenger during pure traversal. You will hate a garage stall if you treat grab as optional. You will also waste time if you drive every hallway with the magnet out. WheelMates has no combat, so “damage” never enters the conversation. The only score is whether two RC cars can lift a cover, hold a button, or slide a part that tires cannot push cleanly.

Firevolt describes the tool as magnets that manipulate faraway objects. In rooms it feels like a beam you toggle on: the car looks at a valid target, the grab latches, and you either lift, drag, or keep pressure on a switch. The May demo patch put magnet grab back to toggle mode after hold-style aiming felt worse. Play the launch build that way. Toggle on, do the job, toggle off. Do not hold a trigger until your hand cramps.

Garage debut, same building as rope

Magnet grab arrives with the rope swing in the Garage. The May 6, 2026 demo opened the kitchen for onboarding, then the garage for new tools and secrets. If your pair only finished the Kitchen, you have not really met grab yet. The garage is full of covers, tool drawers, hanging bits, and buttons placed where a tiny car cannot sit and drive at the same time.

Read Getting Started for session setup, then use this page when a garage object refuses to move. The Walkthrough is the ordered list of those objects; the rank is here so you know why grab is B even when a single hatch takes five minutes.

Covers, buttons, and moving objects

Three jobs show up again and again.

Lift covers. A panel hides a switch, a path, or a collectible. Drive to a line of sight, toggle grab, lift, and let the partner enter. Sometimes the cover slams if you release; leave grab on until the second car is through. That is why toggle matters. A hold-to-lift design fights the rest of the driving inputs.

Buttons and holds. Some buttons are on walls, under benches, or on the back of machines. Grab lets you press or hold from a safer angle. Two-player design loves this: one car keeps a button live while the other drives a gate. If both of you sit on the button, nobody is free to take the reward.

Move objects. Crates, magnetic parts, lids, and experiment leftovers can slide into gaps, onto plates, or out of a doorway. Nudge, do not fling. Launch handling reduced surprise brake when you release throttle, which makes small drags easier than in the first demo. If an object is clearly not magnetic, stop. Grab is not a universal tractor beam.

Toggle mode and why the patch exists

Players who met grab in the earliest demo week should ignore muscle memory. Firevolt restored toggle, made the hookshot easier, added DualSense icons, and cleaned collision. Rank B assumes toggle. If your session still feels like hold-to-aim, check that you are on the September 1, 2026 Steam build, not an old demo depot.

Toggle also plays nicer in split-screen. Player two on keyboard already has a rough time rebinding. A hold action on top of movement is how P2 drops a cover onto P1. Use a second controller. There is no in-game voice; call “grab on” and “grab off” on Discord or across the couch so the partner is not guessing why a lid is floating.

Why B, and why you still need it

Magnetic wheels are S because they turn old rooms into new maps. Rope swing is A because gaps and levers never stop appearing. Magnet grab is B because most minutes in a room are still driving, swinging, or talking. Grab is the specialist. When a puzzle is an object, it is the only specialist that works.

That split is the point of a puzzle tier list. If we ranked “required to 100% the house,” grab would sit next to the others. If we ranked “how often you change how you see the whole building,” grab loses to wheels. This wiki ranks puzzle solving with both ideas in mind: mandatory in its rooms, situational between them.

Cosmetics do not make grab stronger. A louder horn will not lift a heavier lid. Find paint and parts on the customization page after the object is out of the way.

Co-op habits that keep B-tier puzzles short

Assign roles before you toggle. “I own covers, you own the button” is enough. If an object needs to travel across a gap, combine grab with rope: one player holds the part, the other builds the path. Wheels can put a car on a wall so grab has line of sight that the floor never offered. The three gadgets are a sentence, not a rivalry.

Friend’s Pass still means one Steam copy. Online and local split-screen both work. Remote Play Together is fine for grab if latency is low, because you are lining up a beam, not a precise drift. If the object stutters, stop toggling for a second and resync.

There is no solo practice mode. The fastest way to learn grab is one garage session where you only touch objects and ignore optional races around the floor. Then go back to driving. Magnet grab stays B because the house is mostly a driving puzzle, and this is the magnet you point at the furniture instead of the road.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for two-player RC sessions.

Is magnet grab hold or toggle?

Toggle. A demo patch restored toggle mode after hold-style aiming felt worse. Use on/off, do not keep the control held.

Where does magnet grab unlock?

In the Garage, alongside the rope swing. The Kitchen is onboarding; grab is the garage exam.

Why is a required gadget only B?

B means situational, not skippable. Grab wins object puzzles and sits idle during pure driving. Magnetic wheels still rank S for reopening rooms.

Can grab pull every loose thing in a room?

No. It manipulates valid magnetic objects: covers, some buttons, and marked parts. Random clutter is often just scenery.

Does player two need a controller for grab puzzles?

Strongly recommended. Keyboard P2 rebinds are awkward, and toggle-plus-drive is messy on one keyboard. Split-screen wants two pads.

Where do I see grab in campaign order?

The Walkthrough lists rooms. This page is the rank and the toggle habit. Session setup is on Getting Started.
