WheelMates PC system requirements

DirectX 12 minimums, recommended GPUs, 15 GB of space, Steam Deck support, and the RC Together log folder.

System Requirements

WheelMates is a DirectX 12 game. That is the first filter. If a laptop GPU tops out at DirectX 11, the Steam page’s other numbers do not matter. Firevolt released the two-player RC co-op on 1 September 2026 for Windows PC and Steam Deck. These specs describe that live build, not a future console SKU. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch remain planned for the first half of 2027; they do not change what your PC needs tonight.

Both columns require a 64-bit processor, 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, broadband if you play online, and 15 GB of free storage. The gap between minimum and recommended is CPU generation, RAM, and GPU class. Puzzle games still hitch when a city-sized kitchen streams textures, so treat the minimum as “it runs” and the recommended as “split-screen and Deck-like handheld both feel calm.”

Minimum

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 / 11
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 / AMD RX 580
  • DirectX: 12
  • Network: broadband for online co-op
  • Storage: 15 GB

The GTX 1060 / RX 580 line is a hard floor for DX12 in this project, not a humble-brag. Integrated graphics that advertise “DirectX 12” on a spec sheet may still miss Firevolt’s feature level. If the game refuses to boot, check the GPU driver before you reinstall Visual C++ packs.

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 / 11
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 / AMD RX 6600 XT
  • DirectX: 12
  • Network: broadband for online co-op
  • Storage: 15 GB

16 GB is the comfort line for split-screen, browsers, Discord, and Steam Overlay at once. WheelMates has no in-game voice, so Discord is part of the recommended machine even though it is not a GPU. If you only have 8 GB, close the browser and run Discord on a phone.

Steam Deck

Steam Deck is supported at launch. The 15 June 2026 Next Fest demo already advertised handheld play. A Deck is a valid way to run local split-screen on a couch in 2026 while you wait on the Switch SKU. You still need a second player and, for local play, a second controller. Deck support does not add a solo story.

Handheld settings that help: follow camera instead of a wild free camera, sensible steering sensitivity, and a plug-in Ethernet or a strong 5 GHz network if the partner is online. The game is still DX12; Deck compatibility is Firevolt’s claim for this title, not a blanket promise for every Proton trick you found on another game.

Storage path and crash logs

The install folder uses the development name RC Together, not “WheelMates.” Steam’s library path looks like:

C:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/RC Together/CarGame/Saved/Logs

Your drive letter and library folder may differ if Steam lives on D: or in Program Files (x86)/Steam. The important tokens are RC Together, CarGame, and Saved/Logs. Paste that into Explorer after you crash, then attach the newest log on the official Discord rather than a photo of the desktop.

15 GB is the Steam estimate. Leave extra space if you also keep the demo depot. Mixing demo and full-game folders is how people end up launching an old handling build and thinking magnet grab is still hold-to-aim. Verify game files if toggle mode is missing; that is a patch habit, not a GPU habit. See the Updates Hub for which demo taught which handling change.

What specs do not buy you

A 4090 does not unlock solo. A 32-core CPU does not skip magnetic wheels. Friend’s Pass still wants a second human. If the machine is fine and the session is not, leave this page and open co-op setup. If you need the store price or the 6-hour / 8-hour length, open the Launch FAQ.

Controllers are recommended even on a beast PC. DualSense icons exist in the UI, Xbox-style pads work, and keyboard player two has a known rebind headache. That is not a spec issue. It is a local-input issue described on the co-op page.

After you pass the checklist

Install, verify files, plug two pads if you are on a couch, open Discord if you are online, and go to Getting Started. The Kitchen is the onboarding room; it is also a good GPU smoke test because cluttered shelves show whether you are actually at 60. If the kitchen is smooth and the Garage is not, you are probably looking at a co-op desync or a camera setting, not a missing 8 GB of VRAM.

Official numbers come from Steam. This page copies them so they sit next to the log path. When Firevolt posts a new minimum, update this grid; do not invent laptop models in the meantime.

If your PC clears DX12 and 15 GB, the remaining boss is finding player two, not finding a driver CD.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for two-player RC sessions.

Does WheelMates run on DirectX 11?

No. Steam lists DirectX 12 for both minimum and recommended. A DX11-only GPU is below spec.

How much disk space do I need?

15 GB, plus slack if you keep the demo. The install folder is named RC Together, not WheelMates.

Where are the log files?

C:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/RC Together/CarGame/Saved/Logs — adjust the drive and Steam library path to match your PC.

Is Steam Deck supported?

Yes, at launch. The Next Fest demo already included Deck support. You still need a second player.

Will a better GPU let me play solo?

No. Hardware does not add a one-player mode. Session rules are on co-op setup.

Do consoles use these same numbers?

These numbers are the Steam PC spec. Console editions are planned for H1 2027; see Consoles.
