Launch FAQ

WheelMates launched on 1 September 2026 on Steam for PC and Steam Deck. This page is the launch FAQ: when to boot, what it costs, how Friend’s Pass works, how long the house takes, why you cannot play alone, and where to find a partner. For the dated trail that led here, use the Updates Hub. For PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch plans, use Consoles. Hardware and session setup sit under system requirements and co-op setup.

Firevolt is the developer and publisher. The store app ID is 3905450. If a widget still shows 7 September, it is leftover copy from the Future Games Show date. The live Steam release is 1 September 2026, moved forward on 12 August.

Time and platforms

Steam unlocked the full game on launch day for Windows PC and Steam Deck. There is no separate “PC later” build. DirectX 12 is required. Steam Deck was supported in the 15 June 2026 Next Fest demo and remains supported at launch. You still need a second player; a Deck does not add a solo story.

Exact hour stamps depend on Steam’s region unlock, not on a console midnight event. If your library shows the game as playable, it is playable. If a friend on another continent is still waiting, that is Steam’s staggered store refresh, not a missing SKU.

Price and the launch discount

Base price is $19.99 (regional equivalents such as £15.99 / €19.99). A 10% launch discount runs through 15 September 2026, which is $17.99 during that window. The Supporter Edition bundles the game with the Supporter Pack (exclusive car and extra customization). The pack is cosmetic. It does not buy a solo mode or skip puzzles. See customization if you only care about the extra body.

There is no battle pass and no timed energy system. The discount is a store sale, not an in-game event with a clock inside Professor Bloom’s house. The game itself still has no timers on puzzles.

Friend’s Pass, Remote Play Together, split-screen

WheelMates is mandatory two-player co-op. Friend’s Pass is how Firevolt keeps that from meaning two purchases. One person owns the game. The second player joins as a guest. That guest can be online or on the same PC in local split-screen. Split-screen wants a second controller on the host machine.

Steam Remote Play Together is also supported at launch. That is a different pipe: the owner streams the session, and the guest drives as if they were on the couch. Use it when Friend’s Pass matchmaking is awkward or when you already live in Remote Play for other couch games. Input lag hurts rope swing more than it hurts driving on the floor, so prefer a native online session when both of you own decent connections.

Full button-by-button setup is on co-op setup. This FAQ only needs the rule: you never need two copies, and you always need two drivers.

Length

Firevolt’s own estimate is about 6 hours for the story and about 8 hours if you explore, grab secrets, and finish extra content. That matches a house that reopens when you earn magnetic wheels, rope swing, and magnet grab. If you only drive forward and ignore backtracking, you will land closer to six. If you hunt hidden parts for paint jobs, you will land closer to eight.

Twenty-one Steam achievements exist. They are not a second campaign. Play the Kitchen and Garage at human speed; nothing in the design punishes a slow pair.

No solo, and where to find player two

There is no solo mode, no AI partner, and no three-player mode. Puzzles assume two cars. If you bought the game without a friend online, you still need a human. Firevolt’s official answer for voice is Discord, because the game has no in-game voice chat. The studio Discord is the intended LFG board as well as the patch-feedback board.

Practical options:

  1. A friend with Friend’s Pass (they do not buy the game).
  2. A second controller on your PC for split-screen.
  3. Remote Play Together with someone who can tolerate stream delay.
  4. The official Discord if you need a stranger who already owns the joke about RC cars in a kitchen.

Do not wait for a single-player patch that Firevolt has not announced. The Getting Started guide assumes you already have that second person queued.

What launched besides the house

14 languages. Steam Cloud. Full controller support. Family Sharing on Steam’s usual terms, which is separate from Friend’s Pass. A Journal that started in the Next Fest demo. Handling from the demo season: faster steering, less brake when you lift off, wall slides, easier hookshot, magnet grab on toggle.

If the game crashes, grab logs from C:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/RC Together/CarGame/Saved/Logs — the install folder still uses the old RC Together dev name. More of that lives on system requirements.

Boot with a partner, not with a checklist of rumors. The Steam copy you have is the released game. Consoles are the only “later” sentence left, and they have their own page.
