WheelMates updates and timeline
From the January 2026 announce to the September 1 Steam launch, with demo and Next Fest notes.
WheelMates is out. Firevolt released the two-player RC co-op on 1 September 2026 for Steam PC and Steam Deck. This hub is the dated trail: announce, demo, Next Fest, the August calendar change, and launch day. Console editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch are a separate, later track planned for the first half of 2027. Do not mix those calendars. PC is not in pre-release limbo.
Use the child pages for the questions people actually type. Launch FAQ covers time, price, Friend’s Pass, length, and the no-solo rule. Consoles covers the 2027 roadmap and why a PS5 trailer is not a PC delay. The dated demo-to-launch patch list lives on Patch Notes. Setup and hardware live under Tools: system requirements and co-op setup. Puzzle ranks stay on the tier list.
Timeline
28 January 2026 — Announce
Firevolt posted the first public Steam news drop: a co-op RC adventure through a strange professor’s house, wishlist live, first playtest incoming. The pitch already named the loop you play now. Two cars, no combat fantasy, upgrades such as winch rope-swinging and magnetic wheels, hidden rooms that reopen as you progress. Discord was the feedback channel from day one.
6 May 2026 — Public demo (Kitchen + Garage)
The first public demo opened without a waitlist. After a closed playtest, Firevolt added the Garage because testers wanted more space. Players learned controls and early power-ups in the Kitchen, then used magnet grab and rope swing in the Garage. Local split-screen joined online co-op. A mid-May patch sped up steering, reduced brake on throttle release, improved wall slides, added DualSense icons, made the hookshot easier, and restored magnet grab to toggle. The full changelog for that week is on Patch Notes.
~10 June 2026 — Connection Stability and DLSS
Steam news posted a Connection Stability and DLSS Improvements note around 10 June. That is the online-and-image pass, not another handling rewrite. Details sit on Patch Notes.
15 June 2026 — Steam Next Fest demo
The Next Fest build was a quality pass on that demo, not a new game. Steam Deck support went in. Camera options (follow versus free) and handling sliders landed. The Journal collected story scraps about the missing professor. Firevolt also talked more openly about Bloom’s whereabouts and motives. An updated demo trailer circulated with the fest; the video on this hub is the later official release-date trailer.
26–28 June 2026 — Closed Backyard playtest
Firevolt ran a closed Backyard playtest over 26–28 June. It was not a public demo depot. Treat it as a date on the way to the full house, not as a build you can still download. Notes: Patch Notes.
6 June 2026 — September 7 date, then the move
At the Future Games Show, Firevolt set a Steam date of 7 September 2026 and confirmed Friend’s Pass. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series were described as following later. That 7 September stamp is historical. It is not the date on the store page now.
12 August 2026 — Date moved to 1 September
Firevolt pulled the launch forward by a week. The Steam news post paired the new date with a gameplay overview. If a third-party article still says 7 September, it is stale. This wiki uses 1 September 2026.
3 August 2026 — Demo closed
Firevolt closed the public demo on 3 August 2026 to finish the release build. A leftover demo depot is how people launch an old handling build. Verify files on the 1 September game; the changelog for the close is on Patch Notes.
1 September 2026 — Launch
Steam PC and Steam Deck. $19.99, 10% off through 15 September 2026. Friend’s Pass at launch so one copy covers two players. Remote Play Together supported. 21 achievements. 14 languages. DirectX 12. About 6 hours for the story, about 8 if you hunt secrets. Mandatory two-player co-op, online or local split-screen. No solo. No in-game voice — Discord or the couch. Full launch questions: Launch FAQ.
What this hub is not
It is not a daily patch blog yet. Day-one Steam news is the “WheelMates is OUT” note plus the store FAQ. Handling changes you feel in the live build mostly arrived during the demo season listed above; the byte-level list is Patch Notes. No numbered post-launch patch has been announced yet. Studio Q&A said DLC is planned after launch, with no date and no name — that is not a patch and not a reason to delay the 1 September build. If Firevolt posts numbered patches later, add them on the Patch Notes page rather than stuffing this timeline until it is unreadable.
It is also not the console storefront. Consoles exists so PC owners stop asking whether they bought an unfinished SKU. They did not. The Steam build is the released game. PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch remain planned for H1 2027.
How to read updates with the rest of the wiki
New players should not start here. Start with Getting Started, then the Kitchen and Garage, then the Walkthrough. Come back to this hub when you need a date, a discount window, or a reminder of which demo taught which gadget.
Official posts live on Steam news and the studio Discord. This wiki paraphrases those posts; it is not a Firevolt channel. For storefronts and socials, use the Links hub.
The short version if you only remember four stamps: announced 28 January 2026, demo 6 May, Next Fest 15 June, launch moved 12 August, cars on Steam 1 September.
